The other was the uplift of the INS Trata area. Plans have been announced about a complete makeover of the Worli Fort - this though, has happened in the past too, so we will believe that when we actually see it happening. As they say, the proof of the pudding is in the eating.

The Worli makeover is going strong, with the G South ward taking on a series of initiatives to beautify the area. This newspaper has carried various reports about recent initiatives. One was about the sculpture of a fisherman on the Worli Seaface stretch, at a traffic island on the road.

Some time ago, we also highlighted a Warli painting initiative on the walls opposite Century Bazaar and near the old passport office. It was by BMC workers with an artistic flair.

Now, construction barricades and sheets at Worli are being beautified, notably by painters from an organisation that works with the transgender community. A civic official had claimed that this was because the BMC thought it wise to do something for the community and especially the artists who deserve a platform.

This is inclusivity at its best. We usually think that these communities are being looked after by non-profits but to think and see that the BMC has roped them in to work for the city, is very laudable. This is also a very good example for others, as it not only gives the transgender community artists a platform but great visibility too.

We must see government arms being sensitised to these communities because that means we are moving towards a much more equitable and just society.

Heartfelt news for all gender activists; this also breaks stereotypes and perceptions about the community. More power to a movement that is a mix of aesthetics and inclusivity.
