5.4 magnitude quake hits Philippines

An earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale struck parts of southern Philippines on Saturday. No damage was reported but there could be numerous aftershocks, state seismologists said.

The moderately quake which occurred at around 8.30 a.m. was traced 22 km southeast of Malapatan township at a depth of 30 km, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
