New York: An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale jolted 78km south west of Kirakira, Solomon Islands on Friday, the US Geological Survey said.

The epicentre, with a depth of 13.99 km, was initially determined to be at 10.9442 degrees south latitude and 161.4025 degrees east longitude, Xinhua reported.
