Afghanistan flash floods kill 20, over 100 missing in Nuristan

Flash floods triggered by heavy rain have killed at least 20 people, injured around 80 and left more than 100 missing in Afghanistan's Nuristan province. Rescue operations are underway as authorities warn of more extreme weather, with forecasts predicting additional heavy rain and flooding across several provinces.

Flash floods in eastern Afghanistan have killed 20 people, injured about 80 more and left more than 100 missing, Afghan authorities said Monday.

The floods struck the eastern province of Nuristan, said Yousaf Hammad, spokesman for the Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority, adding that a search and rescue operation was underway to locate the missing.
