Jane Pitt wrote a letter to her hometown paper, the Springfield News-Leader, slamming US President Obama as a proponent of abortions and calling on fellow Christians to support the presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney. &lsquo;Any Christian should spend much time in prayer before refusing to vote for a family man with high morals, business experience, who is against abortion, and shares Christian conviction concerning homosexuality just because he is a Mormon,&rsquo; the letter reads.u00a0The letter to the editor was in response to a previously published letter by a reader who urged voters to shut out Romney because of his religion.u00a0Pitt identified herself as &lsquo;a Christian [who differs] with the Mormon religion.&rsquo; Pitt goes on to write that &lsquo;any Christian who does not vote or writes in a name is casting a vote for Romney&rsquo;s opponent, Barack Hussein Obama &mdash; a man who sat in Jeremiah Wright&rsquo;s church for years, did not hold a public ceremony to mark the National Day of Prayer, and is a liberal who supports the killing of unborn babies and same-sex marriage.&rsquo; The publication of the controversial letter was accompanied by some confusion over whether it was written by Brad Pitt&rsquo;s mother, but the Missouri newspaper confirmed her identity in an Editor&rsquo;s Note.u00a0The revelation comes as a shock to many since Brad Pitt and Jolie have long been outspoken and staunch supporters of US President Obama and same-sex marriage. Champ of the cause In December of 2011, the 48-year-old actor told the talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, who is herself a lesbian, &ldquo;I&rsquo;ve said that we would not be getting married until everyone in this country had the right to get married.&rdquo; The Hollywood power couple, who have six children together, eventually gave in and announced their engagement in April, but have yet to set a date. In September of 2007, Pitt donated $100,000 (Rs 55 lakh) to the campaign against Proposition 8, California&rsquo;s voter-approved ban on same-sex marriage. At the time, Pitt said: &ldquo;Everyone has the right to live the life they so desire if it doesn&rsquo;t harm another and because discrimination has no place in America.&rsquo; This past March, Pitt and George Clooney took part in a star-studded reading of the play 8 by Dustin Lance Black that revolves around the 2010 court case Perry vs. Schwarzenegger, which challenged the legality of Proposition 8.
