Bronx Zoo elephant Happy euthanised at age 55 after health decline

Happy, a Bronx Zoo elephant who gave researchers new insight into the animal’s behaviour and became the crux of a closely watched animal rights case, has been euthanised at age 55.
The Asian elephant had age-related issues that accelerated recently, including kidney and liver issues. Born in the wild in Asia, Happy was brought to the US when she was 1-year-old.
