US researchers have developed a sustainable method using ground eggshells to create magnesium alloys. Utilising friction stir extrusion, the technique converts the eggshell’s calcium carbonate into calcium compounds directly within the metal matrix.

The innovation could reduce energy use, cut manufacturing steps, and provide a cheap, sustainable supply for automotive, aerospace, and medical uses.
