Jose Javier, a 12-year-old boy from Torrevieja, Spain, created an account with Google pay-per-click service AdWords in August, which ads above search results and on other sites. The budding musician's goal was to make his brass band famous.
According to a report in <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/oct/06/google-waives-100000-bill-that-12-year-old-ran-up-online" target="_blank">The Guardian</a>, Javier's parents, who had opened a savings account in his name &ndash; gave his banking details thinking he was actually going to earn money from ads on his homemade website.
As per Google AdWords, a customer gives his or her credit card details and only pays when someone clicks on the link something Javier possibly didn't know about. He ended up racking a 100,000 Euro, which is approximately around Rs 74 lakh in debts. His parents were notified of this by the bank authorities.
But, a spokesperson at Google has confirmed that they would be waiving the exorbitant bill as they believe "it was all a mistake and that he did it without thinking".
