Iran has criticised the United Nations' statement on the latest military escalation in the Gulf region, arguing that its recent strikes on US military bases in Bahrain and Kuwait were carried out in self-defence under international law rather than as acts of aggression.
The remarks were made by Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei after UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for restraint and urged all parties to return to diplomacy amid rising tensions in the region.
