July 7, 2005 was a sad day for London. On the morning of that tragic Thursday, four terrorists detonated three bombs in quick time on London Underground trains across the city.

Later, a bomb also exploded on a double-decker bus in Tavistock Square. Over 50 people were killed, and more than 700 injured in the deadly blasts. Also known as 7/7, the bombings are considered the worst in Britain's history since 1988 bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie in Scotland.

Investigations revealed that the explosions were caused by homemade organic peroxide-based devices, which were packed into into backpacks. Incidentally, the July 7 attacks took place just a day after London had won its bid to host the 2012 Olympic Games.
