Mahrang Baloch, a physician and organiser with Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) —  which is a human rights movement that was established in 2018 in response to alleged systemic abuse — has emerged as one of the leading voices bringing attention to human rights violations in Balochistan.

She has been accused of serving as a front for terrorist organisations by Pakistan’s military. This has prompted strong backlash from BYC. A recent press briefing revealed that the Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry claimed that Mahrang was affiliated with “terrorist networks.” BYC maintained its innocence calling the allegations “groundless and slanderous.”
