Scientists have discovered a unique, bright yellow coral growing over a meter tall on seamounts covered in brittle stars beneath the Pacific off Costa Rica. 

Revealed during 2019 and 2023 Schmidt Ocean Institute expeditions using the ROV SuBastian, its distinct genetics and anatomy led researchers to establish an entirely new family.
