Sri Lanka nursing home fire kills 12 elderly residents, eight hospitalised

A fire at a home for older people in Anguruwatota, Sri Lanka, killed 12 residents and left eight others hospitalised. Authorities rescued 51 people from the facility, while police arrested the home's director as investigations into the incident continue

A dozen people have died in a fire at a home for older people in Sri Lanka, police said on Thursday, while another eight have been hospitalised.

The fire, which broke out at a home in Anguruwatota (55 km from the capital Colombo), has been put out and the director of the establishment has been arrested.
