President Donald Trump on Monday said the United States (US) would impose a 20 per cent charge on all cargo passing through the Strait of Hormuz to recover the cost of securing the strategic waterway and would reinstate a blockade targeting Iranian ships.

"The Hormuz Strait is OPEN," Trump posted, adding, "We are reinstating THE IRANIAN BLOCKADE, so named because it is only stopping Iran's ships or customers from entering or leaving."
