Heavy monsoon rains have triggered a major flood crisis across Assam and neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh, leaving more than 22,000 people affected and causing widespread destruction. Dhemaji has emerged as the worst-hit district, with 96 villages submerged, nearly 1,690 hectares of cropland damaged, and more than 48,000 livestock affected. A railway bridge over the Simen River, built in 1965, partially collapsed due to severe riverbank erosion, forcing the suspension of train services between Archipathar and Simen Chapari.

A severe flood emergency has unfolded across Arunachal Pradesh after intense rainfall triggered flash floods, landslides and widespread damage to homes, roads and critical infrastructure. Several regions have been hit by relentless downpours, with Yazali recording 72.8 mm of rainfall within just 24 hours. The extreme weather led to a sudden surge in water levels, triggering flash floods that swept through multiple areas of Lower Subansiri and adjoining districts. The disaster has severely affected connectivity across the state. Landslides have blocked roads at several locations, while a key highway bridge was reportedly washed away, disrupting transportation and complicating rescue and relief efforts. Authorities are racing to assess the full extent of the damage as access to some affected regions remains difficult. WATCH
