Ahead of Asia Cup 2025, India's chief selector Ajit Agarkar on Tuesday announced the squad for the upcoming continental event.
In the squad, one of India's prominent batsmen, Shreyas Iyer, has missed the cut. Speaking on his exclusion, Agarkar said that he'll have to wait for his chance.
The 47-year-old former pacer told the media, "With regards to Shreyas, not his fault, nor is it ours. It's just that you can pick 15 and at the moment you'll have to wait for his chance".
The concluded IPL 2025 was one of Shreyas' best seasons in his career so far. He finished the tournament as the sixth-highest run-scorer. Having played 17 matches, the right-hander had scored 604 runs, including six half-centuries. His best score in the tournament was an unbeaten 97 runs.

Consistent opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal also failed to make it to the main squad. The left-hander was named in the reserve players for the continental tournament.
In his place, Team India's think tank has preferred Abhishek Sharma, who also provides an option of spin bowling.
"With regards to Yashasvi, I mean, it's just unfortunate again. You know, there's Abhishek Sharma, what he's done over the last few months or a year or so that he's been with the team, plus that he can bowl a little bit, gives us an option if required by the captain. One of these guys was always going to miss out. It's just unfortunate that Yashasvi might have to wait for his chance," he said.
The Asia Cup 2025 will kick start on September 9. The "Men in Blue" will play their first match against the UAE on September 10 at the Dubai International Stadium.
