Ahead of the Asia Cup 2025, Pakistan announced its squad for the continental event. The tournament is scheduled to start on September 9.
Premier Pakistani players such as Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan have missed the cut in the squad. The duo, which has been the prominent faces in the national side, has been experiencing a rough phase in their careers.
So far in 128 T20I matches, Babar has scored 4223 runs, with three centuries and 36 half-centuries. On the other hand, Rizwan has played 106 shortest format matches and has garnered 3414 runs. He also has a century and 30 half-centuries in the format. In their absence, the management will expect Saim Ayub to rise to the occasion. So far, having played 36 T20Is for Pakistan, the left-hander has scored 705 runs, with a top score of an unbeaten 98 runs. With three half-centuries to his name, the 23-year-old is yet to score a ton in the format.
Salman Ali Agha has been appointed as the captain to lead the 'Green Shirts' in the mega event and their UAE tri-series.
Fakhar Zaman, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali and Faheem Ashraf are the names of the experienced players in the 17-member side.
The management has provided opportunities to young players such as Saim Ayub, Hasan Nawaz, and Mohammad Haris.
The "Green Shirts" will begin their campaign on September 12. They will lock horns against Oman at the Dubai International Stadium at 7.30 PM.
The mega clash between arch-rivals, Team India and Pakistan, has been scheduled on September 14 at the same venue. They will then play their third clash against the UAE on September 17.
The tournament may witness another electrifying clash between India and Pakistan if both teams manage to seal their spot in the Super Four of the Asia Cup 2025. The final of the mega event will be played on September 28.
