After a marathon seven hour-long Special General Meeting (SGM), the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) accepted some of the recommendations made by the Supreme Court-appointed Justice RM Lodha Committee.
However, it remained silent on three very important matters like one-state one-vote, age limit of 70 years and cooling-off period of three years, thereby setting the stage for another round of confrontation with the apex court.
&ldquo;Many significant recommendations of the Lodha Committee have been accepted by the BCCI SGM members. But wherever they have found any legal challenge or any practical difficulty, they have expressed their viewpoints and have not accepted those recommendations.
&ldquo;A detailed report will be submitted to the Supreme Court and will also be sent to the Lodha Committee on what the members felt and why they accepted or rejected few recommendations,&rdquo; BCCI president Anurag Thakur said after the meeting, adding that most of the members were on the same page.
Apart from the three points mentioned, the BCCI have also not accepted the recommendation on the selection panel being a three-man one instead of five with Test experience.
Among the significant recommendations adopted unanimously in the meeting were induction of the representative of Comptroller and Auditor General as the member of the Apex Council as well as the IPL Governing Council and the formation of the Apex Council with certain modifications.
A BCCI release also mentioned the &ldquo;various committees as recommended by the Hon&rsquo;ble Justice Lodha Committee including the special committee for the differently abled and the Women&rsquo;s Committee.&rdquo;
Another recommendation was &ldquo;formation of the Players Association and their representation on the Committee&rdquo;. As per one of the recommendations, the SGM authorised the BCCI&acirc;u00c2u0080u00c2u0088CEO to contact the steering committee as proposed by the Lodha panel and commence the formation of the cricket players association.
