The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to conduct its 87th Annual General Meeting (AGM) at its Mumbai headquarters today, but according to Cricket Association of Bihar (CAB) secretary Aditya Verma, officials attending the AGM might find themselves in serious trouble.
Legal issue "They (BCCI officials) are preparing themselves to be jailed. Legally, they are not allowed to conduct and attend this AGM. Shirke's (BCCI secretary Ajay Shirke) election for the Honorary Secretary's post is also illegal. They are also planning to hold elections for Working Committee and the Technical Committee, which is also against the law," Verma told mid-day from Patna yesterday.
Verma, who filed a petition against the BCCI for contempt of court, said that the Justice RM Lodha Committee confirmed the receipt of his letter dated September 17. "Justice Lodha Committee replied to my letter and said not to worry and I should wait till the AGM," he added.
Shirke to stay as BCCI secy Current secretary Ajay Shirke is all set to be elected unopposed at the 87th Annual General Meeting of the BCCI scheduled to be held today. In fact a senior BCCI functionary confirmed that Shirke's was the only nomination for the secretary's post. "His (Shirke) was the only nomination received today," the official told PTI.
Shirke became the secretary in July after Anurag Thakur was elevated as the president with Shashank Manohar opting to quit BCCI for the ICC chairmanship. Shirke is the supremo of the Maharashtra Cricket Association and known to be close to former BCCI and ICC president Sharad Pawar.
