Mahendra Singh Dhoni offered a straight bat to talk about his future as India's limited overs captain at a time when Test skipper Virat Kohli is climbing up the popularity charts.

On the eve of his team's departure to Zimbabwe yesterday, Dhoni, who former Team Director Ravi Shastri felt should enjoy his cricket while Kohli takes over the leadership in all three formats, said: "It's not that I don't enjoy the game. This decision will be taken by the BCCI. It's not up to me to decide on that."

Last week, Shastri told India Today channel: "It's a Catch 22, it's a hard decision, but I would be thinking about it from now. And nothing wrong in that, it is in the interest of Indian cricket. If you see down the line and you think Dhoni is still the best captain, keep him as captain. But the issue here is the breaks (between Tests and ODIs), and do you have a guy ready. My answer is you have a guy ready."
While Dhoni will have a lot of rest after the Zimbabwe tour since India's season is a Test match-heavy one, he stressed that motivating himself will not be an issue.
Fitness, the key He also harped on the importance of staying fit. "I am 35 right now and the day I am not able to run as fast as I am running now I know (time is up). I have to keep myself more fit. Fitness is very important, but the demand for my body is different. For a fast bowler, the demand keeps changing. For a wicketkeeper it is set because the maximum you can keep is 90 overs in a day. At this point, my only concern is fitness and so far it has been good," said Dhoni.
