Delhi'S under-23 team emulated their seniors to beat Mumbai and clinch the Col CK Nayudu Trophy at Mumbai Cricket Association Bandra-Kurla Complex ground yesterday. On Tuesday, Delhi beat Bengal in the Ranji Trophy semi-final at Pune with two days to spare.

Mumbai strike early It didn't start too well for the U-23 visitors as Mumbai seamer Sairaj Patil struck in the day's first over to trap overnight batsman Anuj Rawat leg before wicket for 75. New man Yash Sherawat (1) was bowled by medium pacer Minad Manjrekar and Delhi were in trouble at 133 for four, chasing 237. A little later, overnight batsman and skipper Jonty Sidhu was dropped by Khizar Dafedar at second slip off Manjrekar. This missed opportunity was followed by lapses in the field with Delhi earning a few boundaries in the process. Dinesh Mor joined Sidhu to put on a 56-run stand for the fifth wicket. Next man Lalit Yadav (31 off 34 balls) played attractively and stuck around with Mor to hand Delhi a five-wicket win. Mor stayed unbeaten on 46 although he was dropped at second slip by Shams Mulani when on 30.
Delhi skipper Sidhu, who scored 40, was a relieved young man. "My dropped catch was important because had we lost another wicket, we would have had to play under a lot of pressure. After that, I scored around 25 runs and those were crucial runs," said the former India U-19 cricketer. "We were inspired by the way our seniors outclassed Bengal in the Ranji semis and we wanted to win the CK Nayudu Trophy convincingly.
'Credit to senior team too' Credit goes to our senior team too," said Delhi's wicketkeeper-batsman Rawat, who played a vital role with his 83 and 75. Poor fielding added to Mumbai's woes, but skipper Jay Bista strangely did not use left-arm spinner Karsh Kothari, who on Day Three, claimed No. 3 batsman Rajesh Sharma's wicket.
