Team India vice-captain and wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has been ruled out for the remainder of the ongoing five-match Test series against England.

On Day 1 of the fourth Test match, the left-hander suffered a hit on his foot while batting. Following the incident, he was forced to leave the field.

Rishabh Pant was retired out after he scored 37 runs in 48 balls, including two boundaries and a maximum.

"He is ruled out for the next six weeks. A cover will be called in, and it is likely to be Ishan Kishan," a BCCI source told PTI.

As Pant removed his shoes for the professionals to analyse his wound, blood was seen on his right foot. There was a considerable amount of swelling near the affected area.

As Team India is most likely going to call Ishan Kishan to replace Pant, it will be interesting to see the change. Kishan, who recently played two County matches for Nottinghamshire, was also a part of the India A squad that faced the England Lions ahead of the Test series, though the 26-year-old did not appear in any of the two matches.

Despite being injured, Pant had enough runs under his belt to become the first-ever wicketkeeper-batsman to score 1000 runs in away country in Test history.

Currently, the Uttarakhand-born cricketer has amassed 1018 runs on English soil, including four centuries and the same number of half-centuries. So far, his best score in England is 146 runs. Except for him, no other wicketkeeper-batsman has achieved the feat of scoring 1000 runs outside his home country.

Pant also has the most runs by a visiting wicketkeeper-batsman in England, next to legendary MS Dhoni's tally of 778 runs. The 27-year-old also became the sixth batsman after Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sunil Gavaskar, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul to complete 1,000 runs in England in Test cricket.

In the fourth Test match, Team India ended day one at 264/4, with Shardul Thakur (19*) and Ravindra Jadeja (19*). The half-centuries from Sai Sudharsan (61 in 151 balls, with seven fours) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (58 in 107 balls, with 10 fours and a six) served as the biggest contributions of the day.

England skipper Ben Stokes (2/47) stood as the pick of the bowlers, removing skipper Shubman Gill and Sudharsan.
