It will be interesting to see if the Gill-Gautam Gambhir duo tastes success in the English conditions with not-so-young Team India. So far, skipper Gill has featured in 32 Test matches and has garnered 1,893 runs, including five centuries and seven half-centuries

Shubman Gill is all set to lead Team India for a five-match Test series against England. The series is scheduled to start from June 20, with the first match to be played at the Headingley Cricket Ground.

Previously, Team India stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma announced their shocking retirements from the longest format of the game. After Rohit's retirement, the Test team's captaincy spot was vacant, following which, Team India's think tank decided to appoint Gill as their new skipper. Taking to X:

The series will also mark Gill's first assignment after being appointed as skipper. Ahead of the series, alongside Rohit and Virat, India will also miss the services of their spin veteran Ravichandran Ashwin.

The Indian set up now comprises newcomers and less experienced campaigners such as Arshdeep Singh and Sai Sudharsan. During the recently concluded IPL 2025, Sudharsan earned his maiden Test call-up, following his performances in the domestic circuit. The left-hander may provide stability at the top.

On the other hand, Arshdeep has been picked over Harshit Rana and Mohammed Shami. After his inclusion, the Indian pace attack has got a major boost, which includes the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna. In the recently shared video of the practice session by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the players were seen all geared up for the Headingley Test. Taking to X:

Additionally, Karun Nair, who has been enjoying his rich vein of form, is expected to feature in the Test series against England. In the warm-up games against the England Lions, the right-hander has silenced his critics by smashing a double-century.

It will be interesting to see if the Gill-Gautam Gambhir duo tastes success in the English conditions with not-so-young Team India. So far, skipper Gill has featured in 32 Test matches and has garnered 1,893 runs, including five centuries and seven half-centuries. In England, he has played just three matches and managed to score 88 runs with a top score of 28 runs.

Coming to his career so far in the Test matches against the Englishmen, the 25-year-old has amassed 592 runs in 10 games.ย  With two tons and three half-centuries, the Fazilka-born cricketer has registered the highest score of 110 runs. Additionally, Gill may see a slight change in his batting position if Sudharsan and Nair seal their spots in the playing XI.
