In the first ODI match against New Zealand, Team India secured a stunning victory by five wickets at the Eden Park in Auckland.
Following the win, <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/rahanes-cute-anniversary-message-for-wife-radhika-23652189" rel="nofollow">former Team India's cricketer Ajinkya Rahane</a> heaped praise on skipper Shubman Gill by saying that he likes the Punjab-born cricketer's confidence.
"Shubman's performance, batting-wise, has been brilliant. His records tell you a story. What I like most about him, the way he plays, is his confidence," he said on his YouTube channel.
The former cricketer then explained that Gill has been scoring runs and is confident about his batting. He also said that the 27-year-old cricketer is making the right decisions as a captain during the matches.
"The way he walks onto the field, his attitude, that intent, is very important. Form can fluctuate. You score runs one day, you might not the next, but Shubman obviously has that confidence, and he has been scoring runs of late. But the most important thing is how he is improving as a captain with every series. He is handling the players very maturely, rotating his bowlers and making the right changes. So, those are good signs that he is growing with every series," said Rahane.
During the match, Gill managed to score 37 runs in 56 balls, which included five boundaries.
Later, <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/ind-vs-nz-1st-odi-virat-kohli-achieves-several-records-with-match-winning-knock-in-auckland-23658472" rel="nofollow">Team India's superstar batsman Virat Kohli</a> delivered a match-winning knock of 74 runs. Facing 51 balls, he smashed 13 boundaries and a maximum. The right-handed batsman also achieved several records with his knock.
Earlier in the match, Team India's star pacer Arshdeep Singh claimed four wickets by conceding 70 runs in 10 overs. Gurnoor Brar and Anshul Kamboj also bagged three and two wickets, respectively.
With this, the "Men in Blue" have taken a lead by 1-0 in the five-match series against New Zealand. The visitors will look to continue their winning momentum and seal the series.
