After securing a 59-run victory in the IPL 2025 match against Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians' spinner Mitchell Santner heaped praise on premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah for his stunning spell.
"We have shown that in the last few games, the guys up top trying to swing the ball and it's always nice to have someone like Bumrah to bowl at the back end of the powerplay and obviously at the end," Santner said in the post-match presentation.
In the Wankhede clash against DC, Bumrah, alongside Santner, claimed three wickets. The New Zealand cricketer completed his quota of four overs by conceding just 11 runs. On the other hand, Bumrah was smashed for just 12 runs in 3.2 overs.
Following their heroic spells while defending a target of 181 runs, Mumbai registered a win by 59 runs. The victory also helped the Paltan to seal the fourth place in the IPL 2025 playoffs. Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Punjab Kings are the rest three teams who have qualified for the playoffs.
Further, the New Zealand player said that the bowlers performed really well, but the real architects of the victory were Suryakumar Yadav (73* runs off 43 balls) and Naman Dhir (24* runs from 8 balls).
"As a unit, we were great with the ball. But it was set up by SKY and Naman to get us to 180, which was probably over par on that wicket," the 33-year-old player added.
The 33-year-old spinner also spoke about the pitch conditions at the Wankhede Stadium.
"It was nice. Slightly slower wicket with the red soil. The more overspin you bowl, the more you get out of it. Today, that was my job, mix it up and keep the batters guessing. It was nice to see it spin. I bowl stump-to-stump, obviously, there was a little bit there which was nice, so you could essentially bowl a bit straighter,' the all-rounder concluded.
In the first innings of the match, MI's premier batsman Suryakumar Yadav played a crucial knock of 73 runs off just 43 deliveries, including seven boundaries and four maximums. Tilak Varma was the second-highest run-scorer in the match for Mumbai as he scored 27 runs. Riding on their knocks, MI posted 180 runs for the loss of five wickets.
