MB Union’s Dr Aadil Chagla defends one against Bhatnagar Sports & Cultural Foundation
Renowned neurosurgeon and cricket lover Dr Aadil Chagla, 63, showed his MB Union Cricket Club teammates the importance of patience and discipline as he helped them avoid defeat in a Dr HD Kanga Cricket League C Division match against Bhatnagar Sports & Cultural Foundation at Cross Maidan on Sunday.
Riding on Omkar Ghule’s unbeaten 78, the Bhatnagar outfit declared their first innings at 216-6. To avoid giving away the first-innings lead, MB Union needed to bat for the remaining part of the day to ensure a draw. However, they lost their top four batters for just 95. Chagla though dug in for close to an hour, scoring two runs off 33 balls, to help draw the game. MB Union CC ended the day on 130-6. Chagla also shared a 20-run match-saving fourth wicket partnership with No. 5 Chinmay Patil (30).

Chagla, who has been playing the Kanga League for over four decades and fielded for 44 overs on Sunday, said it’s all in the mind. “A lot of cricket is playing in the mind. Cricket is all about discipline and the team’s requirement is always paramount. Discipline and patience are equally important. I could have scored many more runs, but the need of the hour was not runs, but to stay at the crease,” he said.
