Chandrakant Pandit has attributed his sacking as Mumbai's Ranji Trophy coach to a personal agenda by some Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) officials. Pandit, who guided the domestic giants to two consecutive Ranji Trophy finals in the last two seasons, was replaced by former India stumper Sameer Dighe.
"I feel a couple of members did not like my nature. Were the performances not satisfactory in these two years? Or is there anything else, which is never spoken or explained," he wondered.
The MCA had underlined the need for fresh faces when they made various changes in their set-up this season. Pandit wouldn't buy that. "When do you require fresh faces and from where? I can understand that somebody is coming from a foreign country and you are told that foreigners will have different ideas," said Pandit.
"To be honest, this decision is laughable. Everyone is aware about Mumbai's performance over the last two years. The reason (for my sacking) is difficult to understand. A sudden decision like this leaves you with bitter because every player or coach is passionate about getting better results for whichever team he is representing."
His dual roles - coach of the Ranji team and Director of MCA's Indoor Academy - were brought up quite often by his detractors.
"I think the association should be happy that a person of quality is doing a job. I remember when Dilip Vengsarkar (former MCA vice-president and Sharad Pawar (president) mentioning that we won't be able to match what you are getting at Kerala, but if we give you at least this much, can you accept these two roles? And for Mumbai, I accepted," he added.
