Shivaji Park Youngsters (SPY), 'A' division champions in 1992, pulled off an amazing last-ball win over Khar Gymkhana in the 'C' division of the Dr HD Kanga Cricket League yesterday. Riding on Nitin Surve's all-round show (56 and 5-23), SPY beat Khar Gymkhana by virtue of a first innings lead at the suburban venue. The hosts did well to restrict their opponents to 80-5 at one stage thanks to some disciplined bowling from their captain and ex-Mumbai pacer Usman Malvi (3-14).
Crucial six-wicket stand
However, Malvi's rival captain Mandar Phadke, the former Mumbai batsman, now an under-16 selector, slammed 49 (3x4, 4x6) and put on 108 runs for the sixth wicket with Surve. After declaring at 172-5, Surve and left-arm spinner Rahul Ratnaparkhi (4-14) bundled out Khar Gymkhana for a mere 67. The hosts could have drawn the game had Ratnaparkhi's last ball of the day not trapped last man Sahil Talreja leg before wicket for a duck.
