Mumbai's loss was India's gain after Ramesh Powar was yesterday appointed head coach of the Indian women's cricket team till the World T20 in November 30 this year. Powar was a frontrunner for the Mumbai senior team's coach job only to be rejected at the last moment over a technical reason highlighted by the Mumbai Cricket Association.

Powar, who was appointed as interim spin bowling coach of the women's team after the exit of coach Tushar Arothe, will play a crucial role in guiding the team to a tour of Sri Lanka next month. It will be followed by a bilateral series in the West Indies in October and the World T20.
