Shreyas Iyer is set to feature in his second consecutive IPL final on Tuesday, but this time with a new franchise, Punjab Kings, whom he joined earlier this season. With the high-stakes clash set to unfold at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Iyer will aim to steer Punjab to their maiden IPL title and end their long-standing drought. His scintillating 87 off just 41 deliveries in Qualifier 2 against Mumbai Indians was instrumental in powering Punjab to their first final in 11 years.

Iyer’s track record in T20 finals reflects his ability to rise to the occasion. He has featured in four such summit clashes. In the 2020 IPL final, he led Delhi Capitals with an unbeaten 65, albeit in a losing cause against Mumbai Indians. During the 2022 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) final, he played a composed knock of 34 to help Mumbai clinch the title against Himachal Pradesh. In the IPL 2024 final, while representing Kolkata Knight Riders, Iyer remained not out on 6 as KKR triumphed over Sunrisers Hyderabad. Most recently, he contributed 16 runs in the 2024 SMAT final to help Mumbai secure another title, this time over Madhya Pradesh. Across these four T20 finals, Iyer has tallied 121 runs in four innings, twice unbeaten, averaging an impressive 60.5 with one half-century and three titles to his name.

Broadening the lens to white-ball finals (T20 and List A combined), Iyer has participated in 10 matches, amassing 413 runs in 10 innings with two not outs at an average of 51.62. His standout performance came in the 2018–19 Deodhar Trophy final, where he blasted 148 for India B against India C, though in a losing effort. He also notched a match-winning 61 in the 2017–18 Deodhar Trophy final and played a vital knock of 48 in India’s Champions Trophy 2025 win against New Zealand. Additional contributions include 24 for India B in the 2015–16 Deodhar final and a modest 7 in the 2018 Vijay Hazare Trophy final for Mumbai, which they won.

Iyer has also delivered on the first-class final stage. His century (117) in the 2015–16 Ranji Trophy final earned him ‘Player of the Match’ honours. He followed it up with crucial knocks in subsequent finals, including 95 against Vidarbha in the 2023–24 edition. He has been equally impactful in Irani and Duleep Trophy finals, consistently contributing key runs under pressure.

In total, across formats, Iyer has appeared in 16 finals, scored 940 runs across 21 innings (three not outs), and averages 52.22. With two centuries and seven fifties in finals, and ten titles to his name, Iyer steps into the IPL 2025 final carrying a reputation as one of the game’s most reliable performers on the biggest stage.
