Sri Lanka's star spinner Wanindu Hasaranga is set to miss the ODI series against Zimbabwe as he is still suffering from a hamstring injury.
The Chevrons will host Sri Lanka for two ODIs and three T20Is from August 29 in Harare.
Hasaranga is still recovering from the injury he sustained during the third ODI match against Bangladesh in July. Following the injury, he missed the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh and will continue to miss the ODIs against Zimbabwe.
In his absence, Nuwanidu Fernando has returned to the team after more than a year. His last appearance for India's distant rivals came in November 2024 during an ODI match against New Zealand.
So far, he has five ODI appearances for Sri Lanka, in which he fell short of claiming a single wicket. With the bat, he has managed to score 75 runs, including a half-century.
He recently dazzled with his impressive strokeplay for Sri Lanka A against Australia A, scoring an unbeaten 104 to direct a rescue act and ensuring that the four-day match concluded in a draw.
Sri Lanka's white ball tour will begin with two ODIs, with the first to kick off on August 29, and the second on August 31 at the Harare Sports Club. The three T20Is will take place on September 3, 6 and 7. All the fixtures will be held in Harare.
Twenty-five-year-old Fernando has also played one T20I match and has scored five runs.
After the Zimbabwe tour, Sri Lanka will gear up to participate in Asia Cup 2025. The side has been placed in Group B along with Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Hong Kong. Sri Lanka will begin their campaign against Bangladesh on September 13 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium. They will then take on Hong Kong on September 15. 'The Lions' will then lock horns with Afghanistan on September 18.
