India's three-time blind World Cup-winning men’s team captain Ajaykumar Reddy lavished praise on skipper Deepika TC and her side for winning the inaugural Blind Women’s T20 World Cup, beating Nepal by seven wickets in the final at Colombo on Sunday.
“Our blind women’s team winning this T20 World Cup is one of the best moments of my life. Just a few days ago, Harmanpreet Kaur and her team made India proud by winning the ODI World Cup. After losing in so many World Cups earlier, they finally won [beating South Africa by 52 runs in the final on November 2 in Navi Mumbai]. And now our blind team has done it too, so it feels great,” Reddy told mid-day over the phone from Vijayawada on Sunday.
“Winning the Blind World Cup is obviously special, but let’s not forget, unlike Harmanpreet Kaur’s team, Deepika’s girls have clinched the T20 World Cup in their very first attempt, so that makes it even more special. I hope the authorities will take note of this team’s achievement and provide them all the support they need from now on,” added Reddy, who led India to victory in the 2016 Asia Cup, the T20 World Cup in 2017 and 2022, and the ODI World Cup in 2018.
