In the past, some cricketers have been fortunate to watch international players, their style of play and approach towards the game from close quarters while standing as ball boys during international matches.
Sachin Tendulkar is a prime example. The former India batsman was a ball boy during the 1987 World Cup semi-final match between India and England.
In less than a year, he was making his first-class debut for Mumbai at the same ground.
However, there are no ball boys in the ongoing ICC World Twenty20 matches.
"The instructions have come from the International Cricket Council and we have to abide by it. It maybe a precautionary measure. In the shortest format of the game, the ball is hit very hard and chances of ball boys getting injured are high.
"So, in order to avoid injuries, the word body must have come up with this decision," Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) Joint Secretary Unmesh Khanvilkar told mid-day.
