The Multi-Purpose Squad, which was recently given the responsibility of taking stringent action against people and construction sites found wasting drinking water, has taken action against 114 people and collected more than Rs 43,000 in fines in just the last 20 days.

The areas where maximum wastage was found — Bibavewadi, Sangamwadi, Sahakar Nagar, Tilak Road and Warje-Karve Nagar — were the ones that are facing an acute shortage of water.
