Ferrari boss Luca Di Montezemolo has warned that his team cannot afford to continue its poor run in 2012.

"That must be different in 2012.One year I can accept defeat but please not a second consecutive one," The Mirror quoted Montezemolo, as saying.

Ferrari has won one Grand Prix at Silverstone this season.

Montezemolo pointed out that Ferrari has failed to qualify for the title finale only three times in 25 years, and one of them was in this season.

He hinted that the engineering department was responsible for their defeat but lauded team boss Stefano Domenicali and lead driver Fernando Alonso.

"Fernando is the best driver in Formula One, with the best speed, consistency, experience and talent. He compares to the best Schumacher," Montezemolo said.

"You can have the best driver in the world but if you don't have a competitive car you have nothing," he added.

Montezemolo admitted that his team is still recovering from the shock of the World Cup finale defeat in Abu Dhabi.
