Striker Gurjit Kaur led the charge with a hat-trick as title contenders India thrashed Indonesia 8-0 in their opening match of the women's hockey competition here yesterday. Incredibly, India led 6-0 at half time. The goal scorers were Gurjit Kaur, Vandana Katariya, Navnet Kaur and Udita.

Though the victory margin looks impressive on paper, the Indians' inability to convert several chances and make use of most of the 12-plus penalty corners is certainly a cause of concern.
