Canadian figure skater Meagan Duhamel, 32, is a golden girl. Not only did she excel to win a gold medal at the ongoing Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea yesterday, but one of her kind gestures has proved that she has a heart of gold too.
Two-time world champion, Duhamel saved a dog from being butchered for dinner in South Korea. South Koreans have been eating dog meat for thousands of years and are said to consume around one million dogs annually. Though the authorities have requested around a dozen dog meat restaurants in Pyeongchang to at least temporarily stop serving dog meat given the numerous visitors for the Games, most restaurants have refused to listen.
This is the second canine Duhamel has rescued after she helped daschund Moo-tae live longer when she took him home to Canada from South Korea last year as soon as he was born in the dog meat industry.
Moo-tae, two, lives with Duhamel and her husband Bruno Marcotte in Montreal and has even made friends in the local dog park there. "He's like a saint," says Duhamel about her pooch. Well, for the cute canine, she's no less than a saint too!
