The couple met and fell in love while on duty at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, the main venue for the Games. The two were suspended on Friday for being found in a compromising position. A senior official found the couple inside a restroom near gate number 14 of the stadium.

"Their credentials were checked and were taken to the office. The two were suspended for negligence and performing activities which are not allowed inside the stadium premises," said a senior police officer. Both of them, head constables, were suspended with immediate effect.u00a0

Additional Commissioner of Police, Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Vivek Gogia, is in charge of all indoors activities at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. Delhi police officials, meanwhile, refused to divulge more details about the two who were suspended and said that it was an administrative matter.

"The incident had taken place but we wouldn't like to share any details as it is not a crime or any security related matter. It is an administrative matter and should be treated as one," a senior police officer said on condition of anonymity. Police said that after the incident they have instructed all police personnel to be more alert on duty.

Jamia student detained

A second year Arabic honours student of Jamia Millia University was allegedly detained on Saturday by Delhi police after he was found loitering inside Pragati Maidan, one of the venues for the Games.
According to police sources, Mohammed Shamshad had gone to Pragati Maidan on Saturday afternoon to know if his accreditation card was available. He had volunteered for the Games when the registrations were going on.
"He had come to inquire about the status of his accreditation. When he was roaming inside the restricted zone of Pragati Maidan campus without any I-card, he was stopped by a security personnel and a PCR call was made," the source said.
Shamshad was handed over to the Tilak Marg police station and interrogated by a team including special cell sleuths.
"We checked and verified his documents and found that he had come for accreditation. He was released after thorough scrutiny," cops said.
Shamshad stays in Jamia Nagar area and is a native of West Bengal.u00a0
