Indian long jumper Ancy Sojan Edappilly, 25, is aiming to clinch gold at the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya (September 19 to October 4), Japan. But if that doesn’t come to pass, she will be just as happy if she can become the country’s first woman long jumper to breach the seven-metre mark.

“Either seven metres or a gold medal — this is what I want,” Ancy, who won silver at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, told Olympics.com. Ancy’s 6.88m leap earlier this year erased Anju Bobby George’s national record of 6.83m, which had stood for 22 years. Yet the record was never the aim for Ancy.
