Esha Singh upstaged double <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/other-sports/article/india-star-shooter-manu-bhaker-shows-her-muscles-23626711" rel="nofollow">Olympic-medallist Manu Bhaker</a> to clinch gold in the women&rsquo;s 25m pistol event of the ISSF World Cup (Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun) here on Monday.
Singh, 21, produced a commanding display in the final, registering 40 hits to seal top honours, while Bhaker fought through a tense, highly-competitive field, winning a crucial shoot-off before finishing with 28 hits to secure bronze.
&ldquo;This match was very stressful for me because of the previous medal I had won [at the World Cup in Munich, earlier this season]. The better you get in your event, the more you feel that weight of prestige you have to conquer. I&rsquo;m happy that I was able to get past it [the pressure] today and grateful that I had the ability to endure it,&rdquo; said Singh.
&ldquo;I really love competing here in Hangzhou [she won four medals here at the 2022 <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/other-sports/article/indians-stumble-at-final-asian-games-tune-up-23641144" rel="nofollow">Asian Games</a>]. Being familiar with the range, the lighting, and the atmosphere in the final hall definitely counted in my favour,&rdquo; Singh added.
Meanwhile, Bhaker shrugged off any disappointment by suggesting she now knows what to work on for the upcoming major tournament.
&ldquo;This medal acts as a stepping stone. It gives me clarity on what is working and the direction I want to head in. This will help me at the World hampionships and Asian Games.&rdquo;
