Reigning French Open champion Iga Swiatek swept past former US Open champion Emma Raducanu in straight sets to reach the Roland Garros third round on Wednesday.

Poland’s Swiatek won 6-1, 6-2 in one hour 19 minutes and will play either Czech qualifier Sara Bejlek or Romania’s Jaqueline Cristian for a place in the last-16. Swiatek is bidding to become the first woman to win four consecutive French Open titles since Suzanne Lenglen 102 years ago.

“I felt good on court for sure, so I felt I could do whatever I had planned to do or whatever I wanted to do,” said Swiatek, who wrapped up victory on her second match point.

“I just had to adjust to the wind because the conditions were pretty tricky today. I’m happy that I did that well and I’m through,” she added.

Earlier in the day, World No. 4 Jasmine Paolini brushed aside Ajla Tomljanovic 6-3, 6-3 to stretch her winning streak to eight matches following her triumph at the Italian Open earlier this month.

“A little bit of ups and downs, but I’m happy I won,” said Paolini, who finished as the runners-up here last year. She will play Ukraine’s Yuliia Starodubtseva in the next round.

Meanwhile, China’s Zheng Qinwen dispatched Colombia’s Emiliana Arango 6-2, 6-3 in the second round, winning her eighth straight match at Roland Garros’s clay courts after her run to the Olympic final last year where she won gold. She will face Canada’s Victoria Mboko next.
