Unlike many sporting rivalries, there’s a surprising amount of love and camaraderie between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner off the court.
Last week, the Italian said the two share a ‘good friendship off the court,’ after reports emerged that the duo dined at the same restaurant in New York, however, the Italian clarified that it wasn’t a pre-planned meet up.
Nevertheless, the Spaniard World No. 1 has also spoken warmly about the dynamic shared between the two top-ranked tennis aces.
“I’m really happy to build a good relationship off the court [with Sinner], and a great rivalry on the court that makes me improve every day,” said Alcaraz after his Wimbledon final loss to the Italian.
However, this bond is based on a deep mutual respect for each other’s ability and not necessarily because the two share the same passions or hobbies outside the sport, as was made clear by the Spaniard’s admission in May, “I think the respect between us puts us in a position where we have a really good relationship. But we are not very close friends.”
