The Hyderabad challenger Lady In Lace, who had successfully raided the Pune Derby two months ago, continued her successful run in western India by winning the Spartan Poker Indian 1000 Guineas (Gr 1) , the first Classic of the Mumbai racing season. Though she prevailed in a narrow finish over Windsor Forest & Ruffina, her manner of victory, after lying almost unconcerned near the wrong end of the field and then moving up with gigantic strides, gave a clear hint of her class and made abundantly clear why she is the best three-year-old filly in the land presently.
