IOA hold elections despite suspension

Chautala elected president, Bhanot secretary; Acting president Malhotra hopeful of finding solution with IOC and Indian government

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) yesterday blamed its outgoing secretary general Randhir Singh for the mess it is in and decided to go ahead with its elections despite being suspended by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

At the AGM, the IOA passed a resolution holding its outgoing secretary general Randhir Singh responsible for the its suspension by the IOC. Significantly, Randhir, who withdrew from the IOA presidential election on November 25, was absent from the meeting. IOA acting president Vijay Kumar Malhotra was hopeful that he would find a solution with the IOC and the government of India.
