India's tennis icon Vijay Amritraj paid a fine tribute to Kofi Annan, 80, the first United Nations chief from sub-Saharan Africa, who died on Saturday. Amritraj posted this throwback picture with Annan and tweeted: "I was so honoured to be appointed a messenger of peace for the UN by this great man Secretary General Kofi Annan.

He taught me so much about humanity. He was a magnificent diplomat who worked hard for peace in the world. He would have been perfect for today's world. We will miss you Sir. RIP"
