Veteran Indian midfielder Manpreet Singh dedicated the men’s hockey team’s triumphant Asia Cup campaign to the victims of the devastating floods in his home state of Punjab, expressing solidarity with those battling the calamity back home.

Born into a farming family in Mithapur village near Jalandhar, the 33-year-old Olympic bronze medallist played a crucial role in India’s dominant performance throughout the tournament, which not only earned the team continental glory but also secured them a direct berth at the 2026 FIH World Cup in Belgium and the Netherlands.

"Unforgettable night in Rajgir! Grateful to the crowd whose energy pushed us till the end,” wrote Manpreet on X, moments after India lifted their fourth Asia Cup title on Sunday.

“I dedicate this Asia Cup victory to the flood victims in Punjab & all the volunteers who are working hard to help flood victims to rehabilitate — your strength inspires us every day,” added the former India captain.

According to official estimates, extensive damage has been reported with over 1.76 lakh hectares of farmland submerged, resulting in the destruction of standing crops. Several lives have also been lost as rivers swelled following incessant rainfall.

Relief and rescue operations are ongoing in full swing, with personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the Indian Army, Border Security Force (BSF), Punjab Police, and local authorities working round the clock to provide aid to the affected regions.

With this win, India have now become the second-most successful team in the history of the Asia Cup, claiming four titles, 2003 (Kuala Lumpur), 2007 (Chennai), 2017 (Dhaka), and 2025 (Jakarta), just behind Korea, who have won the championship five times.
