The Australian's comments come in the wake of reports claiming Dutch greats, Hans Jorritsma and Maurits Hendriks, are frontrunners to replace Terry Walsh.
A suggestion "India have already qualified for the Rio Games. It is my suggestion that HI should have an Indian as the coach though I am not sure if they will agree to it. The real key are the players," said Nobbs, who added that India could win a medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
On being asked which Indian he believed was capable enough to take over the reins of Indian hockey, he said: "You have Cedric D'Souza, MK Kaushik, Harendra Singh, Jude Felix and many more. Harendra is now an FIH-recognised coach. You have to be optimistic and go forward."
Nobbs, who was talking to reporters on the sidelines of a six-a-side exhibition match between Dabang Mumbai and Mumbai Police at the MHA-Mahindra Stadium yesterday, said that he wasn't looking at taking up coaching assignments in the country.
No India coaching hopes "Last time's experience nearly killed me. I would rather sit on the sidelines and watch it. It's a young person's game and you need a young coach," said Nobbs, who is on a visit to India on behalf of an Australian company that produces wet and dry artificial hockey turfs.
