Mumbai Local sports: Stanislaus boss at home

Goals from Joshua D'Souza and Saurabh Mayekar helped St Stanislaus (Bandra) clinch the Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA)-organised Junior Aga Khan knockout boys' under-16 title with a thrilling 2-1 win over Don Bosco (Matunga) at St Stanislaus ground yesterday.

Aradhana stars for St Elias
Meanwhile, Aradhana Jadhav's hat-trick proved to be the difference as St Elias High School (Khar) beat St Joseph's Convent Primary School (Bandra) 3-1 to win the MSSA-organised KG Kalantri knockout girls' under-16 tournament.

Bosco's lead in vain
Stanislaus began aggressively, but it was Bosco who earned the first penalty corner in the second minute. Yash Jadhav neatly converted to give his side the early lead. However, six minutes later, he missed the target in another penalty corner.

In the 12th minute, Stanislaus found the equaliser when Joshua, who controlled a pass from Saurabh Gupta, smashed it for a goal. Switching sides, Boscos missed an opportunity in the 32nd minute when Faizuddin Siddique could not manage to find the net when he was in the D. However, two minutes later, Saurabh Mayekar made no mistake to convert a penalty that earned the lead for Stanislaus as well as the title. "We earned opportunities by putting Bosco under pressure. It was a good show," said Stanislaus coach George Esteves.
