Mohammadreza Shadloui's bid at the auction
Mohammadreza Shadloui etched his name into Pro Kabaddi League history during the Season 12 Player Auction, becoming the first-ever player to command a price tag of over Rs 2 crore on three separate occasions. The dynamic Iranian all-rounder, who was crowned Season 11’s Most Valuable Player, was the opening bid of the evening and sparked a fierce bidding war before Gujarat Giants secured his services for a staggering Rs 2.23 crore. This acquisition not only reinforced Gujarat's ambition but also solidified Shadloui’s status as one of the most sought-after talents in PKL history.
Another marquee signing that grabbed headlines was Devank Dalal, the electrifying raider who claimed the Best Raider award in the previous season. After leading Patna Pirates to the final in a memorable campaign, Dalal attracted significant interest before being snapped up by Bengal Warriorz for Rs 2.205 crore. His signing makes him the fifth-most expensive player in PKL auction history and underlines Bengal’s intention to build a title-contending squad around proven performers.
A major innovation in this season’s auction was the introduction of the Final Bid Match (FBM) rule. This regulation allows franchises to reclaim previously released players by matching the final bid value offered by another team, securing the player’s return for either one or two seasons. Dabang Delhi K.C. made effective use of this provision, successfully bringing back star raider Ashu Malik for Rs 1.90 crore. The move not only reunites the team with one of their most potent weapons but also ensures squad continuity for the next two seasons.
Among the standout signings from Category A was Arjun Deshwal, who will don the Tamil Thalaivas jersey in Season 12 after being bought for Rs 1.405 crore. Known for his agility and consistency, Deshwal is expected to be a pivotal figure in Tamil Thalaivas’ offensive unit. Another big name to switch sides was Yogesh Dahiya, who was picked up by the Bengaluru Bulls for Rs 1.125 crore.
