Barwal’s silver-medal finish at the Asian Games was nothing short of breathtaking. Clocking 2:11:37, he not only shattered his own national record, set just five months prior in Rotterdam but also ended India’s agonising 44-year wait for an Asian Games marathon medal. The last time an Indian stood on that specific podium was in 1982 in New Delhi; Barwal’s triumph marks the first time an Indian man has claimed an Asian Games marathon medal on 
foreign soil.
